Grand Prix du "Concours Eau pour tous" de la Fondation Suez Environnement
A team of researchers led by 2iE Professor Amadou Hama Maiga, won the
Grand Prix of the "Water for All" Competition promoted by the "Suez Environment
for Technology Jobs Water Distribution Collective" (PDC).
Today, more than 25% of the world's population lacks access to
safe drinking water. Each year, some 8 million people, 50% of children
die in the world because of poor water quality. Serve the poor
requires a great know-how.
To do this the Suez Environment Foundation has launched a contest
on the theme of improvement and development of water services and
sanitation for urban populations of developing countries. The contest
was open to any institution of high education or research
practitioner where a student researcher or a team has developed an
innovative project which promotes the improvement and development of
water services and sanitation in urban areas.
Dr. Amadou Hama Maiga, Deputy General Manager of International Institutes of Water and Environment Engineering (2iE) and his
team won the Grand Prize of the Suez Environment's contest "Water For All" €100 000 for his work on the serving of water by Post
Distribution Collective (PDC). This Grand Prize is to reward
operational innovations applicable on the ground promoting sustainable
access of low income population for drinking water.
The award ceremony will take place in Paris at the "Institut de France", July 2 2009.
